A 'Candidates Book' bound in black leather, with gold blocked decoration and title. It contains some 264 pages, each one being a form to present the details of a prospective member of the Company, together with their Proposer and Seconder.
The book was presented to the Company during a Court meeting on 10th May 1927 by Herbert Sullivan (nephew of Sir Arthur Sullivan), having become Master in 1926. A Minute from that meeting (relevant page shown left) records the Court's thanks.
The recording of proposed candidates in this volume seems to have stopped around 1935, so the major part of this book contains just blank forms.
Those pages that had been completed include the proposing of Dr Malcolm Sargent, Edward Dent, Henry Willis, Herbert Howells (as Collard Fellow) and Robert Mayer. All 37 entries are shown below - click an image to expand and scroll through, then click 'Go to link' to enlarge further:
