The Carnegie/Palmer Scholarship

Established in 1904/5 and endowed separately by the American benefactor Andrew Carnegie and 1st Baron, Samuel Ernest Palmer (both Honorary Freemen of the Company) to fund scholarships at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Initially, each fund would provide up to 3 years' free tuition for 2 post graduate students. From 1926 these awards amalgamated into one Scholarship per fund and from 1971 were amalgamated further into a single fund for one student per year. The Award became known as The Carnegie/Palmer Scholarship. Excellence in 'sight reading' has always been a special condition of the Award.

In 2016, this award was replaced by the Musicians' Company Orchestral Artistry Scholarship - Click Here for further details.
